Join Us for Summer Research Training
HERI will offer three research training institutes for Summer 2010:
The CIRP Summer Institute, July 28 – July 30
The Critical Analysis of Quantitative Data Institute, July 13 – July 15
The Diversity Research Institute, August 4 – 6.
Registration is now open for all three institutes.
Newly redesigned, the CIRP Summer Institute enhances your ability to use CIRP data for assessment, campus decision-making, or your own research. Participants will learn about the conceptual frameworks of the three CIRP student surveys, findings from major areas of CIRP research, and how to analyze their own CIRP data. The CIRP Summer Institute also provides instruction in using the new CIRP Constructs, created using Item Response Theory (IRT), and now an important part of how CIRP survey results are interpreted and utilized. This institute is taught by expert instructors from HERI, including CIRP Director John Pryor, CIRP Assistant Director for Research Linda DeAngelo, CIRP Assistant Director Laura Plaucki Blake, HERI Associate Director of Data Management & Analysis Serge Tran, and HERI Director Sylvia Hurtado. Participants may register for one of two tracks, depending on SPSS familiarity. July 28 – 30.
The Critical Analysis of Quantitative Data Institute introduces statistical methods that will enhance critical research. Participants will learn techniques that will help them identify social and institutional inequities; understand educational processes and outcomes on a large scale; and improve the utility of national databases. Participants will also learn how to frame and design studies that are critical in nature, and support social justice and policy change. HERI Director Sylvia Hurtado is the institute director. Two tracks are offered, one focused on multilevel modeling (instructor Marvin Titus) and the other on Social Network Theory (instructors Cecilia Rios-Aguilar and Scott Thomas). July 13- 15.
The Diversity Research Institute provides campus administrators, faculty, and institutional researchers with two full days of training. The institute is designed to provide state of the art research and practice frameworks to assess the campus climate for diversity, campus diversity practices, and student outcomes. Participants engage in problem solving using assessment to improve diverse learning environments. This institute is designed with campus teams in mind, and will expose participants to strategies that can put institutions on a path toward supporting and enhancing diversity and civic engagement initiatives on campus. HERI Director Sylvia Hurtado and organizational change and transformation expert Adrianna Kezar are the institute instructors. August 4 – 6.
