Hurtado and Astin & Astin Recognized by ASHE
The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) recently recognized three members of HERI with awards.
HERI Director Sylvia Hurtado received the 2010 ASHE Leadership Award. In the introduction to that award, Sylvia was recognized as a “leader that demonstrated courage, vision, and a steadfast commitment to higher education research, policy and the members of our community.” The introduction goes on further to state that ‘through her unwavering commitment to the ASHE members, doctoral students, and many others, she has unselfishly given her time, energy and passion to make our community a better place.”
HERI Founding Director Sandy Astin and Helen “Lena” Astin, both currently faculty affiliates of HERI, were recognized jointly with the 2010 ASHE Mentoring Award, citing the “synergistic nature of their co-mentoring.” The introduction elaborates in that “they provide a beautiful model of collaboration, collegiality, and on occasion, how to disagree constructively and respectively.”
We at HERI are privileged and grateful to have the opportunity to work with such outstanding leaders and mentors.
