A Perfect Marriage of Information & Graphics

It is no secret that infographics are top of mind at HERI. You may have seen our blog post earlier this week, in which we created a “word cloud” that represents (in abstract terms, of course) our newest survey, the DLE or Diverse Learning Environments Survey: https://heri.ucla.edu/blog/?p=1004. It was a fun exercise, and inspired us to take infographics to an even higher level.

Because we produce so much data and know there’s a a great demand for our data, the challenge for us is finding ways to communicate the data in an effective and compelling way.  Infographics allow us to do just that.

We’re currently working on two infographic projects right now, specifically geared to first-year student officers and diversity officers at colleges across the country. With the old adage of “a picture says 1,000 words,” we believe that a highly creative visual medium, such as the infographic, has the power to stimulate a dialogue about the issues facing students on campus and ultimately serve as a catalyst for change.

Further, we’ve recently seen other organizations incorporate our data into  infographics, which is great, and so we’re looking forward to creating more of our own.

Here are a few great infographics we found that incorporate CIRP data:

We’d love to hear your thoughts on infographics!
